Given Amazon’s The Rings of Power was quite the departure from what Tolkien put down on paper all those years ago, there will be some enthusiasts delighted by this prospect. Some publications have been granted a brief hands on with the game at Daedalic HQ, with Eurogamer speaking of an “authentic take on the original source material that lore enthusiasts will pore over.” We went hands-on with the game back in March, and we said, "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum does at least make a good first impression, outlining a solid case for piloting one of the strangest and yet most important characters in the lore.Developed by Daedalic Entertainment, the game was supposed to launch as far back as 2021, but PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC gamers only have to wait a couple of months longer. After a pile of delays, we learned of its current release date earlier this year. It's been a long road to release for Gollum, as the game was originally scheduled to come out in 2021. The gameplay will also feature elements of stealth and parkour. Players will sneak around Middle-earth while making choices to align with either the darker Gollum or gentler Sméagol. A Nintendo Switch version is scheduled for sometime later this year. ![]() On Thursday, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will launch on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. ![]() IGN has reached out to developer Daedalic Entertainment for comment. There are threads on both Reddit and resetera discussing the leaked footage. The video has since been taken down, but it stayed online for several hours before it was removed.
